Walt Disney Concert Hall Up Close

The Walt Disney Concert Hall was designed by Pritzker prize-winning architect Frank Gehry in 1987; after several delays, it was finally completed in 2003. The structure is covered in sheets of metal, a Gehry trademark along with his sculptural design (another example is the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain which many consider to be Gehry's best work).

Construction was made possible by a $50 million gift from Lillian B. Disney (Walt's widow), hence the name. The hall is the home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. It is also part of the Los Angeles Music Center, which includes the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the Ahmanson Theater and the Mark Taper Forum.

I hope to take photos of the interior when we visit the hall this summer.
