Tabloidtopia

This Jezebel feature summarizing the weekly celebrity gossip reminded me of that one time I was standing behind a middle-aged man in the 10 items or less checkout line at my local grocery store.

He didn't buy any food, not even gum. All he had was an armful of the latest issues of all the tabloids he could find.

It also reminded me of a client years ago (when I was in sales) whose reading material on display was a cornucopia of gossip rags proudly fanned out on her coffeetable.

Yeah, yeah, we all have our junk of choice, but like any sensible diet I hope they're balancing this out with something worthwhile. After all, the brain can atrophy like a prune.

That is all.
