Battlestar Galactica: Razor
The new Battlestar Galactica is on its last season starting March 2008, and if you've never seen this sci-fi series because the cheesy, campy original BSG of the 70's leaves a sour taste in your mouth, erase its memory from your head and go rent every one of the last three seasons of the new BSG before watching its final season. It's that good.
For me, the new BSG singlehandedly saved TV from being a total waste. I also wasn't a big fan of sci-fi, but the series proved to me that sci-fi when done right is not so much about the space age special effects -- although it does that outstandingly well, too -- but more about the complexities that beset the human condition.
As we in the know impatiently wait for the last season, the BSG crew released a two-hour movie in the interim called Battlestar Galactica: Razor which came out on DVD today. It's a detailed flashback into one of the more compelling storylines of the series, when the Cylons attacked the Colonies and Galactica discovers that another Battlestar, the Pegasus, survived. It's a good primer to the series that'll give you a taste of the new and much improved BSG. Needless to say, I highly recommend it.
