Bizarre Holiday Links• Menorah Dwarfs Christmas Tree, Town People Not Pleased. Some residents in Long Beach, N.Y. called it an "insult to Christianity". The mayor finally had to get a tree slightly taller than the menorah. Didn't realize the holidays is all about size now. Considering Christmas decorations are everywhere, couldn't they let this go? Whatever happened to the holiday spirit?• Creepiest Christmas Decor Ever. "Plastic replica of an 11-12 week old fetus, 3" long, holding a firearm in its precious little hand, with an assortment of other military paraphernalia, encased in a translucent plastic ornament, with a patriotic yellow ribbon on top". Also comes in brown model. Right up there with chocolate crucified Jesus as the most disturbing religious product ever. • Just His Holiday Luck. Michael Millhouse won't forget this holiday season. Two photos of him were featured on the front page of his local paper on the same day: one of him painting a holiday sign and another of him pilfering someone's wallet at a convenience store. Didn't take long for someone to put two and two together and get Millhouse promptly arrested. • Give Love, Less Guns. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department continued an annual exchange program in the city of Compton: turn in your guns and get $50 gift certificates to local area stores. $100 certificates for early birds. Photos of shopping carts filled with the turned in guns? Sobering. Value of lives saved by this program? Priceless. • Santa Died for Your Mastercard. A man protests the commercialism of Christmas by nailing an effigy of Santa Claus on a cross and displaying a headless Santa on his lawn singing Christmas carols. Neighbors are offended but don't know what to think. The man says he got the idea from Japanese merchants who displayed a crucified Santa in a holiday display mixup. Oh great, as if a crucified Santa isn't enough, he's brings Buddhists into the mix. Label(s): Misc Technorati Tags: christmas christmas tree holidays menorah hanukkah santa claus |
